This institution was established in 1969 in Modasa with the generous support of donors. It began in a small room with 21 students, made possible by the principal donation of ₹15,000 from Shri Vadilal Hiralal Gandhi, after whom the institution is named. Since its inception, the institution has been efficiently and dedicatedly managed by the Lions Club Society, Modasa.
Today, the institution runs a School for Deaf and Speech-Impaired students, providing education from Standard 1 to Standard 8, where 120 students—including 80 boys and 40 girls—are currently enrolled.
In the same spirit of service, the Lions Industrial Training Institute (ITI)—the first and only industrial training institute in Gujarat exclusively for Deaf students—was established in 2002 with financial support from the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF), USA. Students from Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh come here for vocational training. At present, seven trades are operational, and 90 trainees are undergoing skill-based training.
After completing their training, students are not left on their own. To ensure they secure suitable employment or self-employment opportunities, placement camps are organized within the institution itself. To date, 1,485 students have successfully completed ITI training, out of which 720 students are either self-employed or gainfully employed, leading dignified and economically independent lives in society.
With the guiding principle of “Service to persons with disabilities is service to humanity,” we strive to create a strong platform for these children, which they utilize to their fullest potential. When the institution began, there were only 21 students; today, 152 boys and 58 girls are associated with the institution. We remain firmly committed to providing opportunities that help them build a bright and secure future.
In February 2020, the institution proudly celebrated its Golden Jubilee. On this occasion, our students showcased their extraordinary abilities through cultural performances in the presence of nearly 3,000 spectators from Modasa city and surrounding areas, earning widespread appreciation. Generous donors extended significant financial support for the development of the students, enabling the institution to establish modern educational facilities aligned with present-day needs.
Beyond these two institutions, the Lions Club Society, Modasa has undertaken numerous social service projects in the city, creating a distinct and respected identity in the community. All members of the Executive Committee continue to work shoulder to shoulder to ensure the steady growth and development of the institution.
This institution is the first and only of its kind in Aravalli District, providing such comprehensive opportunities that allow a large number of students to lead fulfilling lives. Our students excel not only academically but also demonstrate remarkable talent in various cultural activities.
Students from both the school and ITI regularly participate in the Gujarat Government’s Khel Mahakumbh (Specially Abled Category) and have consistently secured 1st, 2nd, and 3rd positions at district and state levels. Our students also compete alongside mainstream students in State-Level Drawing Competitions, winning first prizes every year. In the Peace Poster Competition organized by Lions International, our students have secured 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes consecutively for the past three years.
Furthermore, in a Science Project competition organized by the Gujarat Science Congress, our student Chauhan Priyarajsinh presented a solar energy project, which won 1st prize at the state level and subsequently 1st prize at the national level—a matter of immense pride for our institution.
All beneficiaries admitted to the institution are provided with 100% free facilities, including lodging, boarding, hostel accommodation, educational materials, uniforms, daily essential items, and medical services. We are fully committed to ensuring the holistic development of children who have faced challenges due to circumstances beyond their control, so that they may become economically self-reliant and lead dignified lives.
We believe it is our moral responsibility as a society to show empathy towards these children and ensure they receive every possible opportunity for their overall development. We consider ourselves fortunate to have been given the opportunity to serve them, and we remain dedicated to fulfilling this responsibility with sincerity and devotion, which gives us deep inner satisfaction.
The institution has been functioning under my leadership since 1987, with wholehearted support from all Executive Committee members. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Lion Shri Manubhai V. Patel (Honorary Secretary), Lion Shri Bhaveshbhai B. Jaiswal (Honorary Secretary), and Shri Parinbhai Joshi, who has served the institution with humility and dedication as a devoted worker.
I warmly invite you to visit Modasa city in Aravalli District at any time and personally experience the work and environment of our institution. We will be delighted to welcome you and share our journey with you.
